Major upgrade works at Verdaguer metro station will force passengers to make street-level transfers for twelve months starting Monday. The underground corridor connecting L4 and L5 lines will close completely during this period. Commuters must now exit onto Passeig de Sant Joan when transferring from L4. They then access L5 via the entrance at Provença and Bailèn street intersection. Both routes feature clear signage for passenger convenience.

Accessibility Improvements Underway

The Generalitat’s Territori department began these upgrade works earlier this year. Consequently, they’re investing €8.6 million into making Verdaguer’s L4 station fully accessible. Moreover, workers will install three new lifts throughout the station. Additionally, platform extensions will create more space for passengers. Meanwhile, crews replace old stairs in the transfer corridor with modern ramps.

Transport authorities aim to achieve 100% accessibility across Barcelona’s metro network. Currently, 156 stations already meet mobility-reduced access standards. That represents 96% of all stations in the system. Furthermore, similar works continue at Clot (L1) and Ciutadella I Vila Olímpica (L4) stations. These projects demonstrate the Generalitat’s commitment to inclusive public transport according to their official accessibility guidelines.

Passenger Adaptation Period

Regular commuters should prepare for extended journey times during these works. However, Transport Metropolitans de Barcelona assures passengers that all alternative routes remain clearly marked. Furthermore, station staff will assist anyone needing directions between lines. Meanwhile, the Barna News metro guide offers detailed advice for navigating temporary changes.

Barcelona’s metro system continues evolving to serve its 1.2 million daily riders better. These essential upgrades will ultimately benefit all passengers once completed in early 2026. The city maintains its position as having one of Europe’s most accessible urban transport networks.
