The Fiesta Mayor of Viladecans has seen a new element in its security detail: drones. The Local Police put the devices to work on the opening night of celebrations, using aerial footage to monitor the massive crowds at the concert of Figa Flawas, which drew more than 8,000 people to the Parc de la Marina.

The drones, equipped with high-resolution cameras and thermal options for night use, gave officers a bird’s-eye view of the festival. The technology allowed quicker detection of potential altercations or safety concerns, making it easier to react before issues escalated. The images also provided crowd estimates and helped regulate traffic flows around key access points.

Alongside the aerial support, the police increased their presence on the ground with permanent patrols and tighter traffic control. The council also brought in the Unit for Support and Coexistence, while Civil Protection teams were on hand throughout the festivities from 5 to 8 September. Together, these efforts were aimed at ensuring everyone could enjoy the events in a safe and orderly manner.

Local authorities say the drones will be a valuable tool for monitoring large public gatherings, not only during festivals but also for emergencies and rescue operations. For Viladecans, the Fiesta Mayor has served as a proving ground for a technology likely to feature in future city policing.
