A man has died following a fatal Vilanova i la Geltrú stabbing during a street fight in Garraf early on Tuesday morning. The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a suspect in connection with the death.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at approximately 5:00 am after a witness called 112. The caller reported that two men were fighting in the middle of the street and that one had attacked the other with a bladed weapon.

Police patrols and ambulances from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) rushed to the scene on Carrer de l’Havana, located in the town centre. Despite attempts by paramedics to resuscitate the victim, he succumbed to severe stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspect Arrested Nearby Following Vilanova i la Geltrú Stabbing
Using a description provided by the witness, officers from the Citizen Security Unit (USC) of the Vilanova police station conducted a search of the surrounding area. They located and arrested the alleged perpetrator shortly afterwards.
According to sources from the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council, the victim and the detainee knew each other. It is understood they were walking home together when an altercation broke out for reasons currently unknown, leading to the fatal attack.
The area between Carrer de l’Havana and Carrer de Josep Llanza remains cordoned off while investigators conduct a forensic examination. Meanwhile, the case has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), operating under the direction of the Investigating Court number 6 of Vilanova i la Geltrú.
Recent Violence in the Municipality
This incident marks the third violent death in Vilanova i la Geltrú in recent months, raising local concerns. Last September, a 50-year-old homeless man was found stabbed to death in the Jardins de Francesc Macià.
That discovery occurred just days before another grim find, where a dismembered body was located in a suitcase on Carrer de Lepant. Police investigations later linked a suspect, who shared a squatted flat with one of the victims, to both previous crimes.
