Sant Feliu de Guíxols has firmly established itself as the home of the Volta’s opening stage. As in previous years, the town will host both the start and the finish of the first stage. This consistency offers teams and riders a familiar setting. Therefore, it provides a stable beginning for one of the calendar’s oldest and most prestigious week-long stage races.
The repeated selection of the town underscores a strategic partnership between the race organisers and local authorities. According to the announcement, the event is viewed as a vital opportunity. The rugged coastline of the Costa Brava provides a picturesque yet challenging backdrop for the peloton. Meanwhile, the specific route profile for the 2026 opener has not yet been detailed. However, previous editions starting in Sant Feliu de Guíxols have typically featured leg-sapping terrain. This terrain prevents a pure sprinter’s procession, often favouring puncheurs and aggressive riders from the very first kilometre.
