Vox has launched a fresh attack on the Catalan president, Salvador Illa, accusing him of ‘funding crime and illegal immigration’.

The charge came from María García, a Vox deputy in the Catalan Parliament, who claimed Illa’s policies amounted to ‘open doors’ that had left neighbourhoods unsafe. Speaking to journalists in Barcelona, García alleged that residents were living an ‘infierno’ as a result of years of uncontrolled migration, intensified in recent months.
She criticised Illa for travelling abroad, including to Japan and Brussels, rather than addressing what she described as the breakdown of local peace and security. García pledged that Vox would reverse current policies and restore order.
The deputy also highlighted long waiting lists in Catalonia’s health service, accusing the government of prioritising linguistic issues over patient care. She cited figures claiming that more than 2,000 people died in 2024 while waiting for surgical operations — a statistic used to underscore what she called ‘a system in crisis’.
The remarks reflect Vox’s continued effort to link immigration, security and public services in its attacks on the governing Socialists.
