Red graffiti appeared on the Vox Barcelona headquarters in Sant Gervasi, la Bonanova early on Wednesday morning. The vandalism included the message "History will prove us right" and the acronym for the Students' Union of the Catalan Countries (SEPC).
The headquarters is located on Carrer del Camp, within the affluent Sant Gervasi, la Bonanova district. This area is home to many businesses and residential properties.
Vandalism Details Emerge
The political party reported the incident to the media immediately after discovering the graffiti. Vox officials link the vandalism to a previous dispute involving the SEPC.
This dispute stems from an event the Students' Union of the Catalan Countries (SEPC) organised at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). The event allegedly advertised food and drink offers named "ETA" and "Terra Lliure".
SEPC Event Controversy
The "ETA" and "Terra Lliure" names refer to former armed groups. ETA was a Basque separatist organisation, while Terra Lliure was a Catalan separatist group.
According to the event's promotional poster, the "Terra Lliure" menu offered potatoes, a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, a beer, and a mixed drink for €6.50.
The "ETA" offer included potatoes, a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, a calimotxo (red wine and cola), and another mixed drink for €7.00.
Political Response and Context
Vox, a right-wing political party, has a significant presence in Barcelona and Catalonia. They often take a firm stance against what they perceive as radical separatist or left-wing activism.
The Vox Parliamentary Group previously announced they would take the case regarding the UAB event to the prosecutor's office. This latest act of vandalism escalates tensions between the political party and the student union.
