Vox spokesperson in Parliament, Joan Garriga, has labelled President Salvador Illa’s speech at the General Policy Debate predictable, accusing him of distracting attention with Gaza-related issues. The criticism came after Illa announced the Catalunya Casa d’Acollida Palestina programme, which seeks to temporarily accommodate and support Palestinian people in Catalonia.

“The PSC says Catalonia is moving forward, but Vox says Catalonia isn’t moving at all,” Garriga declared at a press conference following Illa’s speech. He also criticised the president for defending the application of the amnesty law.
On housing, where Illa centred his main announcement to Parliament, the Vox spokesperson attacked current prices, claiming housing “is more expensive since the PSC started governing”. He dismissed the macroeconomic data Illa presented as false and criticised infrastructure management, whilst calling for tax cuts.
Garriga’s group will also present security proposals on Wednesday when the General Policy Debate continues. The political clash highlights ongoing divisions over Catalonia’s priorities and the government’s approach to both domestic and international issues.
