October brings awards season for Catalan wine producers. Two major competitions have just revealed their highest-rated wines for 2025. Both use blind tasting to evaluate wines, though they award different categories. The results showcase Catalonia’s diverse wine-making excellence.

The Vinari awards held their 13th edition at Vilafranca del Penedès. Actor Carlos Latre hosted the gala. Meanwhile, the Guia de Vins de Catalunya celebrated its 18th edition at Barcelona’s Razzmatazz venue. Both events assess quality through blind tasting. However, they differ in their category structures.

Vinari creates more conventional categories based on production methods and ageing years. In contrast, the Guia evaluates wines by traditional and recovered grape varieties. Both organisations also present special awards recognising industry figures and best practices.

The Guia de Vins de Catalunya announced several major winners. Abadal Arboset 2019 took Best Wine of the Edition. Pla de Pey 2023 won Best White Wine. The Best Red Wine category had two winners: Abadal Arboset 2019 and Camí Pesseroles 2023. Mas Martinet Viticultors achieved the Best Average Score across their range.

At the Vinari awards, Torres’ Grans Muralles 2020 claimed Best Catalan Wine 2025. Celler Júlia Bernet’s Maria Bernet 2014 won Best Catalan Sparkling Wine 2025. These represent top achievements in still and sparkling wine production.

Sílvia Naranjo, who manages the Guia, emphasised the undeniable quality of the highest-scoring wines. Prices range from 12 to 300 euros. She reflected on the guide’s 18-year journey and its commitment to native grape varieties. The awards highlight Catalonia’s continued investment in both traditional and innovative wine-making approaches.
