The historic shop “El Rei de la Màgia” has been vandalized again with graffiti painted on its facade this Saturday. The owners denounced this on social media with images showing how the century-old facade now has signatures or “tags”, as they’re called in the graffiti world, from people they haven’t been able to identify. A few months ago, Nació interviewed El Rei de la Màgia’s managers, Pau Martinez and Pere Rafart, who defined the shop as “a unique point in the world, a historic refuge that remains, here when someone enters, they find another atmosphere, loaded with another century or another era”.

Now, this magical space appears with paint “every two days”, as Martinez and Rafart complain on X. They’ve even broken one of the exterior display cases in an attempt to steal card games and magic instruments that were on show. The facade is wooden and decorated with paintings of magic instruments and a portrait of the shop’s founder, Joaquim Partagàs. Now, these artisan elements are accompanied by coloured tags that break the magical aura of the century-old shop that’s been passed down from generation to generation.
El Rei de la Màgia was founded in 1881 by Partagàs and Carles Butxelli took over. Afterwards, Pau’s parents took charge and now the two friends run the business. El Rei de la Màgia was founded in 1881 and has passed from generation to generation, resisting the passage of time and the paint appearing on its facade.
