Badalona recorded a decrease in its crime rate in 2025. Data from the Ministry of Interior shows it is now the 18th safest municipality in Catalonia. The city reports fewer crimes per 1,000 inhabitants than Barcelona, L'Hospitalet, and Sant Adrià.
The Ajuntament de Badalona announced that its security policies are yielding results. Mayor Xavier García Albiol stated that "these official data show the municipality is moving in a good direction. The city is safer than a few years ago." He added that the measures implemented "are working" and improve the city "year after year."
Badalona registered an average of 64.36 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants. This figure places it below other significant cities in the Barcelona metropolitan area. These include Esplugues and El Prat de Llobregat. Mayor Albiol has consistently made security an "absolute priority" since he returned to lead the council. These statistics now reflect that focus.
Police Coordination Efforts
The municipal executive attributes these positive trends to strong police coordination. Mayor Albiol confirmed, "The work of the Guardia Urbana, in coordination with the Mossos d'Esquadra, Guardia Civil and National Police, is yielding results." He added, "The increase in police presence on the streets and firmness against crime also contributes." This collaborative approach involves local and national forces.
Public Space Recovery
Officials also highlight the importance of recovering public spaces. They maintain a "zero tolerance" policy against criminal behaviour. These efforts are particularly notable given Badalona's status as one of Catalonia's most populated cities. The city aims to ensure residents feel secure in their daily lives.
Moving forward, the Ajuntament expects continued improvements in public safety. The ongoing focus on police presence and strict enforcement aims to further reduce the Badalona crime rate.
