Barcelona experienced unseasonably warm weather during the second weekend of April. An overnight temperature marked the highest minimum ever recorded for the period, according to local reports. This unusual heat prompted residents to fill outdoor terraces and flock to beaches. It also boosted sales for local businesses across the city, particularly in the Poblenou district.

The warm conditions have significantly altered consumer habits. On Rambla del Poblenou, for instance, hot chocolate sales have given way to ice cream and horchata. A Chocolat-Box representative noted, “The temperatures are really starting to be felt; we arrive with jackets and leave in short sleeves.” The shop has increased ice cream production due to growing demand.

Other local eateries also report a noticeable change. A waitress from Exótico café stated, “Since Easter, we have seen a big change; many more people are coming, and our terrace is full.” Customers, mostly dressed in short sleeves, expressed gratitude for the warm days. One man on a terrace mentioned, “Now we will take a walk along the beach with the dog.”

Rising Demand for Sun Protection

The increasing temperatures and stronger sun have also led to a significant rise in sunscreen sales. Farmàcia Poblenou confirmed an increase in sales of sun creams over recent days. This trend is not isolated to this year. The pharmacy also observes a growing public awareness regarding photoprotection. They added that more people are becoming conscious of sun safety.

Barcelona’s Changing Climate Impact

This shift in weather patterns highlights broader climate trends affecting Barcelona. Residents and businesses are adapting to earlier onset summer-like conditions. The city’s outdoor lifestyle, a hallmark of Barcelona, is further amplified by these warmer springs. This impacts everything from daily routines to local economic activity.

As Barcelona continues to experience these warmer April days, local businesses anticipate sustained demand for seasonal products and outdoor services. The ongoing trend of rising temperatures suggests a continued adaptation for both residents and the city’s commercial landscape in the coming years.
