Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will lead three international summits in Barcelona this April, bringing together global leaders to discuss geopolitics and progressive unity. These high-profile meetings will take place at the Palau de Pedralbes and Fira Gran Via.

The first event, a bilateral summit between Spain and Brazil, occurs on April 17 at the Palau de Pedralbes. Prime Minister Sánchez and Brazilian President Lula Da Silva will co-chair this meeting. Catalan President Salvador Illa will also participate.

This summit will focus on current geopolitical issues. It follows President Lula’s support for Prime Minister Sánchez’s stance against the war in the Middle East.

Global Progressive Mobilisation

Fira Gran Via, a major exhibition centre adjacent to Barcelona, will host the “Global Progressive Mobilisation” on April 17 and 18. European socialists initiated this event. Its aim is to unite global progressive forces against international warmongering.

Beyond Sánchez and Lula, attendees include European Council President António Costa, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi, and Colombian President Gustavo Petro. This gathering underscores Barcelona’s role as a hub for international dialogue.

Defending Democracy

The “Global Progressive Mobilisation” will be reinforced by the “IV Meeting in Defence of Democracy”. This parallel event will specifically address and reject global authoritarianism and the far-right.

Most of the previously mentioned presidents will participate in this meeting. António Costa, however, is not scheduled to attend this specific session. These summits highlight Barcelona’s commitment to democratic values.

These summits position Barcelona as a key location for international political discourse. They will foster collaboration among progressive leaders on critical global challenges. The outcomes could influence international policy discussions in the coming months.
