Barcelona City Council has started a €2.4 million rehabilitation of Casa Hurtado in Pedralbes this April. This modernist building in the Les Corts district will become a new cultural centre. It will feature rehearsal rooms, exhibition spaces, and small concert venues.
The project, expected to take 14 months, will restore the building's original appearance. It will also serve as the new home for the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation. Additionally, the Pedralbes Neighbourhood Association will gain a dedicated space. David Escudé, the Councillor for Les Corts, stated, "Casa Hurtado will become an open public facility for all residents, where music will be present."
New Cultural Hub for Les Corts
The ground floor will host small format concerts. The first floor will accommodate exhibitions from the foundation and offices for local residents. Equipped rehearsal rooms and a musicians' changing room will occupy the second floor. This investment aims to boost cultural offerings in Pedralbes, a residential area known for its green spaces and proximity to university campuses. The Les Corts district, home to over 80,000 residents, will benefit from this new community resource.
Modernist Building's New Purpose
Casa Hurtado, a significant modernist building, stands on Avenida de Pedralbes. Its transformation reflects a broader city strategy to convert historic properties into public amenities. This approach preserves architectural heritage while providing essential services. The City Council's commitment to cultural infrastructure supports local artists and community groups.
Looking Ahead
The 14-month construction period means the new cultural centre should open its doors in mid-2025. Residents and local organisations anticipate the revitalised Casa Hurtado will become a key hub for arts and community activities. It will offer new opportunities for cultural engagement and neighbourhood gatherings.
