Barcelona's L1 metro line experienced significant disruption on Tuesday. Services halted between La Sagrera and Torras i Bages stations due to a medical emergency. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) officials confirmed the interruption stemmed from a medical assistance incident aboard a train.
Medical Emergency at Sant Andreu
Witnesses reported the emergency involved a person suffering an epileptic attack at Sant Andreu metro station. This medical incident necessitated the immediate stoppage of train services for passenger safety and to allow emergency personnel access. During the disruption, the L1 line operated in two separate sections. These ran between Hospital de Bellvitge and La Sagrera, and between Torras i Bages and Fondo. TMB promptly informed passengers about the altered service via its social media channels and station announcements. The temporary suspension caused inconvenience for many daily commuters relying on the L1 for their journeys across the city. This incident particularly affected residents travelling through the Sant Andreu district, a busy residential area in northern Barcelona. The district includes key transport hubs and connects residents to the city centre.
L1 Metro Service Restored
Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) later confirmed the full restoration of L1 metro services. The entire line resumed normal operations at 14:45 on Tuesday, resolving the earlier disruption. The L1, Barcelona's oldest metro line, is a vital artery for the city. It spans 20.7 kilometres and serves 30 stations, connecting key residential areas with the city centre. This ensures continued connectivity for thousands of daily passengers.
With services fully restored, the L1 metro line now operates normally across all its sections. Commuters can expect regular schedules and full access to all stations.
