Barcelona's V5 bus line has extended its route by almost two kilometres, reaching the La Marina del Prat Vermell neighbourhood in the Sants-Montjuïc district from Monday, April 27. This expansion adds eight new stops, significantly improving public transport connectivity for local residents.

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) announced the change in a statement released on Saturday. The extended route now reaches Acer street, lengthening the service by nearly two kilometres. However, this adjustment also results in the cancellation of three existing stops along the previous path.

Previously, the V5 line operated between Pedralbes and Mare de Déu del Port. The new extension directly serves the Sants-Montjuïc district, a large and diverse area of Barcelona. This change aims to better connect the neighbourhood of La Marina del Prat Vermell with the rest of the city's transport network.

Increased Passenger Numbers

The V5 bus line is a popular service, transporting nearly 2.8 million people during 2025. This represented a 4.5% increase in ridership compared to the previous year, showing growing demand. On an average weekday, the line recorded 9,000 passenger validations.

Weekend usage also remained strong, with 3,500 validations on Saturdays. Sundays saw approximately 2,700 passenger validations. These consistent figures show the reliable demand for the V5 service across the entire week.

Improving Local Connectivity

The route extension to La Marina del Prat Vermell is a key development for the Sants-Montjuïc area. It provides enhanced access to public transport for a growing neighbourhood, which has seen significant urban development. Residents can now expect more direct and convenient bus travel options, linking them more effectively to other parts of Barcelona.
