Eight people sustained injuries, five seriously and one critically, after a two-vehicle collision on the C-31 motorway near Cubelles, Barcelona province. The accident occurred early on Sunday morning.

The Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) confirmed the injuries, noting two other individuals were less seriously hurt. SEM activated ten ambulances to transport the injured to various hospitals across Barcelona province. Five units from the Bombers de la Generalitat, Catalonia's fire service, also attended the scene. Firefighters rescued people trapped inside the vehicles and helped clear the road.

Road Closure and Traffic Impact

The C-31 motorway has remained closed in both directions at Cubelles since 06:00 on Sunday. The Servei Català de Trànsit, Catalonia's traffic service, reported the closure via its official channels. This significant disruption affects commuters and travellers along the Garraf coast.

Cubelles is a coastal municipality located approximately 50 kilometres southwest of Barcelona city. The C-31 is a major coastal road connecting towns along the Garraf coast and further south towards Tarragona province. The accident has caused considerable traffic delays in the area.

Ongoing Investigations

Drivers travelling between Barcelona and Tarragona province may experience significant disruption or need alternative routes. Authorities have not yet announced when the C-31 will fully reopen. Investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing.
