A car crashed onto the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) tracks near La Floresta on Monday, interrupting train service on the Barcelona-Vallès line between Les Planes and Sant Cugat. The incident, which left the driver with minor injuries, has since seen normal service restored.
The vehicle, travelling on a road parallel to the railway, collided with a wall and then entered one of the rails. The Fire Service deployed four units to the scene. They removed the car and the fallen debris from the wall.
Service Disruption Details
FGC confirmed the disruption, stating the line was "track intercepted by an obstacle on the track." Local Police reported the driver sustained minor injuries. The driver also tested negative for alcohol. This quick resolution helped minimise prolonged delays for commuters.
The Barcelona-Vallès line is a critical transport link. It connects Barcelona with several municipalities in the Vallès Occidental region. This includes Sant Cugat del Vallès, home to over 95,000 residents. Thousands of commuters rely on this FGC line daily for travel between the city and its metropolitan area.
Impact on Commuters
Disruptions on this line can significantly impact daily routines for residents and workers. This particular section runs through the Collserola Natural Park. It often involves tracks alongside roads in more rural or residential areas like La Floresta. The swift response by emergency services prevented a longer shutdown.
With the vehicle and debris cleared, FGC has fully restored normal service on the Barcelona-Vallès line. Authorities continue to monitor the area to ensure ongoing safety for both road users and train passengers. This incident highlights the importance of vigilance near railway lines.
