In Barcelona’s Poblenou, Casa Ana is still serving traditional Catalan food at prices that keep locals coming back. The restaurant changed ownership in 2025, but it has kept its reputation for good value, steady cooking and a loyal neighbourhood crowd.
The place was formerly L’Altra Bruixa, and before that Bruixas del Poblenou. According to El Periódico Barcelona, it has won back trust with its “muscular breakfasts” and a lunch menu that feeds the area well without pushing up the bill.
Among the dishes singled out are the orange-copper fricandó, pig’s ear a feira, homemade chips and oxtail in red wine sauce. The fricandó uses veal, mushrooms, a concentrated tomato sofrito and a glossy sauce, while the pig’s ear dish is served with potatoes, olive oil and paprika on a wooden base.
Casa Ana’s lunch menu costs €13.50 and has included baked pork knuckle and battered cod with samfaina. Service is described as cheerful and friendly from Ana and Fernanda, while the dining room stays simple, noisy when full and true to its bar roots. There is also a terrace.
A plaque inside says the venue is the social headquarters of the Poblenou petanque club, and regulars still share wine from a porrón at large round tables. The article also notes a customer wearing a T-shirt reading “Visca la ratafia”, a nod to the Catalan liqueur. For more Barcelona neighbourhood coverage, see our Community and Sport pages.
