Barcelona and coastal Catalonia will experience continued weather instability until Tuesday. The Catalan Meteorological Service (Meteocat) expects rain, strong winds, and rough seas.
The storm system, which brought significant disruption on Monday, will gradually weaken but persist across the region. Rainfall will lose intensity overnight into Tuesday morning.
Meteocat forecasts that precipitation will then become restricted to the coastal strip between Barcelona and Northern Catalonia. The Pyrenees will also see continued snowfall, with the snowline around 1,600 metres on the southern face and 1,200 metres on the northern face.
Weather Alerts Remain Active
Meteocat maintains a yellow alert for strong winds in the Empordà region, where gusts could reach 90 kilometres per hour. Additionally, an orange alert for rough seas remains active along the Empordà coastline.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) also issued yellow and orange alerts for wind in the Terres de l’Ebre and Camp de Tarragona areas. These regions could also experience wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour, and AEMET has also issued alerts for rough seas in these southern Catalan coastal zones.
Broader Regional Impact
Beyond Catalonia, the weather instability extends to other parts of eastern Spain. The Valencian Community will experience cooler temperatures.
While rain will diminish, AEMET has yellow alerts for the southern Valencian Community. Here, showers could accumulate up to 20 litres per square metre in one hour. Northern Valencia faces yellow alerts for wind, with gusts potentially reaching 80 kilometres per hour. No rough sea alerts are active for the Valencian coast.
The Balearic Islands will see mild temperatures continue throughout Monday. Mallorca and Menorca expect cloudy skies with possible showers.
However, no alerts for heavy rainfall are active for the islands. Yellow alerts for rough seas are in place for eastern Mallorca and Menorca, where these areas anticipate wind gusts of 70 kilometres per hour and waves reaching three to four metres.
Residents across Catalonia and the affected regions should monitor official weather updates. Authorities advise caution, especially near coastal areas and during strong winds, as the instability gradually subsides.
