A 92-year-old man died from smoke inhalation this afternoon following a fire at number 280 Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes in Barcelona's Sants-Montjuïc district.

Emergency Response to Gran Via Blaze

Barcelona Fire Service received the fire alert shortly after 19:00. They immediately dispatched seven units to the scene. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which originated on the fifth floor of the building. Medical teams from the fire service and the Medical Emergency System (SEM) attended to the man. However, they could not revive him at the location.

Police Investigation Underway

Units from Barcelona's Guàrdia Urbana and the Mossos d'Esquadra also responded to the incident. The Mossos d'Esquadra are now leading the investigation into the fire's cause. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the fire's origin.
