A 53-year-old Barcelona resident was rescued by the Guardia Civil on Monday after spending an hour adrift one nautical mile (approximately 1.8 kilometres) off Bogatell Beach. The man, a Spanish national, became entangled in his kitesurf sail's lines and could not return to shore.

The Guardia Civil's Río Tordera patrol boat located the kitesurfer at approximately 18:15. He was unable to re-launch his sail or swim back to land. Agents from the Provincial Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil in Barcelona quickly responded to the emergency. They rescued him from the water and brought him aboard their vessel. Officers also recovered his kitesurf board and sail during the operation.

Exhaustion and Dehydration

The rescued individual explained to officers that his sail had fallen, leaving him stranded for about an hour. He presented symptoms of exhaustion and dehydration.
