Two minors were arrested in Badalona this Friday, accused of violently robbing a disabled girl of her mobile phone outside school. The incident occurred on General Moragues Street when the two young individuals approached the minor, seizing her iPhone with force.

Swift Police Response

The suspects fled the scene on a scooter after the robbery. However, the Badalona Urban Guard acted rapidly. They located the suspects shortly after, thanks to tracking the stolen mobile phone. Officers intercepted the individuals on Pau Piferrer Street, where they were arrested. The victim, a minor with a disability, was affected by the assault but did not sustain serious injuries, according to initial reports.

Mayor Condemns Incident

The two arrested minors now face charges of violent robbery. Mayor of Badalona, Xavier García Albiol, strongly criticised the situation. He stated, "they know they are in the only country in Europe where a part of the political class believes they are the vulnerable ones, not the disabled girl violently robbed." The mayor also expressed opposition to the regularisation of undocumented immigrants, a policy promoted by Pedro Sánchez's PSOE government.

Rising Scooter Robberies

The Catalan regional police (Mossos d'Esquadra) have long warned about the increasing problem of scooter robberies in the metropolitan area. This issue is particularly prevalent in Barcelona, Badalona, and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. Thieves use these vehicles to approach victims quickly and escape easily after an assault. This tactic complicates police response efforts. In Barcelona, specific operations are already underway to intercept these criminals. Police estimate that scooter robberies could account for one in five total robberies.

Ongoing Investigation

The police investigation remains open to clarify all details of the incident. The arrested individuals, who have previous records, will be placed at the disposal of the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Minors' Prosecutor's Office. This case highlights ongoing public safety concerns for residents across the Barcelona metropolitan area.
