A 52-year-old motorcyclist tragically died on Saturday evening after a road accident on the C-32 motorway in Palafolls, within the Maresme district of Barcelona province. The man, a resident of Tordera, lost control of his motorcycle at kilometre 130, resulting in him leaving the road and falling. Emergency services confirmed his death at the scene due to severe injuries, marking a sombre weekend for road safety in Catalonia.
The incident occurred shortly after 18:30 on Saturday. Four patrols from the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's police force, two units from the Generalitat Firefighters, and two units from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) quickly responded to the scene. Despite their rapid arrival and efforts, they could not save the motorcyclist's life. The Regional Traffic Area has launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident, confirming no other vehicles were involved in the fatal incident. This investigation aims to provide clarity on the circumstances leading to the tragic loss of life.
Rising Road Fatalities in Catalonia
This fatal accident brings the total number of people who have died in road incidents on Catalan roads to 27 since the beginning of 2026, El Caso reported. Motorcyclists account for 12 of these fatalities. This highlights a significant and worrying concern for road safety across the region. The C-32, a major coastal motorway connecting Barcelona with the Maresme and Costa Brava, sees heavy traffic, especially on weekends, according to C-32 highway information. This incident is also the second fatal accident in Catalonia in just over 24 hours, prompting renewed calls for caution among all road users.
Another Fatal Incident in Tarragona
Just one day prior, on Friday morning, a 54-year-old cyclist died after a fall on the TV-2035 in l'Ametlla de Mar, Tarragona province. The cyclist was well-known in his local community. He had previously had his car and motorbike driving licences withdrawn. He was riding an electric bicycle on a very narrow stone path when he fell, sustaining a severe impact. Investigators are currently examining whether alcohol consumption or mobile phone use contributed to that accident, alongside the fact he was wearing a very small helmet.
The ongoing investigations into both incidents underscore the critical importance of road safety measures and driver vigilance across Catalonia. Authorities continue to urge all road users, including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians, to exercise extreme caution. They also advise adherence to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies on the region's roads.
