Barcelona and its metropolitan area will open 94 cultural spaces for the Nit dels Museus 2026 on May 16. This annual event offers a free and distinct cultural experience from 19:00 until 01:00 the following morning.
The Barcelona City Council announced the event will span eight municipalities. These include Barcelona itself, Badalona, Cornellà de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramanet, and Sant Joan Despí. This wide reach allows hundreds of thousands of residents across the metropolitan area to access cultural institutions. Visitors can explore a wide range of activities beyond typical exhibitions. The programme features concerts, recitals, theatre, dance, and guided visits. Most participating museums will offer open doors for their temporary exhibitions, providing diverse options for all interests.
New and Renewed Venues Across the City
This year's Nit dels Museus will open several venues for the first time. The Gran Hotel Barcino in Barcelona joins the event, offering a new historical perspective. In L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, the Centre Cultural La Bòbila and the Centre La Florida 6.0 will also participate. These additions expand the event's footprint in one of Barcelona's most populous neighbouring cities. Other sites, such as the Centre d'Interpretació del Castell de Montjuïc and the Casa de l'Aigua, will feature renewed facilities. The Castell de Montjuïc, a historic fortress, attracts many tourists and locals.
Celebrating Anniversaries and Engaging Youth
The Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes will join the event as it celebrates its 700th anniversary. This Gothic monastery in the Pedralbes district offers a unique historical setting. The initiative's website will highlight proposals particularly attractive to young people. This helps ensure a diverse audience engages with the cultural offerings, fostering future generations of museum-goers.
The Nit dels Museus provides a significant opportunity for residents and tourists to engage with Barcelona's rich cultural heritage. This free night of exploration aims to make art and history accessible to everyone across the metropolitan region.
