A person died from electrocution on the train tracks at Castellbisbal Rodalies station in Barcelona early on Friday morning. The tragic incident occurred around 04:00.

Catalan police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, have opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the death. Police sources informed Europa Press about the ongoing inquiry. Following the incident, train services on the Rodalies R4 line faced temporary interruptions.

Rodalies R4 Service Disruption

Renfe reported that the service disruption affected the route between Martorell and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. This interruption happened at the request of the Mossos d'Esquadra. It lasted from 06:27 until 06:54, impacting morning commuters travelling across the Barcelona metropolitan area. The Rodalies R4 line is a critical transport link. It connects several key towns and cities across the region, including Manresa, Terrassa, Sabadell, and Barcelona itself. Thousands of commuters rely on this line for daily travel to work and education. The temporary halt caused delays for many passengers during peak hours.

Castellbisbal is a municipality located in the Vallès Occidental comarca, within the Barcelona metropolitan area. It sits on the Llobregat river, a significant waterway in Catalonia. L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, one of the endpoints of the affected line, is Barcelona's second-largest city. It is home to over 260,000 residents. Martorell, the other endpoint, is a significant industrial hub known for its automotive sector.

Ongoing Police Investigation

The police investigation continues to determine how the person gained access to the tracks and the exact cause of the electrocution. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased. Train tracks are highly dangerous areas due to high-voltage lines and fast-moving trains. Further details will emerge as the inquiry progresses.
