Barcelona commuters faced major disruption on Tuesday after two system failures hit Rodalies de Catalunya services. The operator is now considering legal action against Siemens, following a similar move by Adif.
Òscar Playa, CEO of Rodalies de Catalunya, said the company has asked its legal team to assess all options. According to a statement from the Generalitat's Department of Territory, he wants the most effective route to claim against Siemens for what he called the system's collapse.
Adif has also said it will take legal steps. The infrastructure manager said Siemens provides IT support for the systems involved and holds the company responsible for the failures, which affected thousands of Catalan users.
The disruption matters in Barcelona because Rodalies is a key part of daily travel across the city and nearby towns. Many passengers rely on it for work, study and airport links, so even short outages can quickly cause delays and missed connections.
The failures happened at the Traffic Regulation Centre, which manages train movements across the network. Both Rodalies and Adif will now review their legal options, with the aim of deciding what comes next over the service interruptions.
