Sant Adrià de Besòs will soon host the Barcelona Metropolitan Area’s largest dog park. According to Metrópoli Abierta, the facility in Besòs Park is quadrupling in size to 2,385 square metres. Officials expect its inauguration by late summer, offering a significant new recreational space.

The Área Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) is overseeing this substantial expansion project. This intervention carries an estimated value of €129,534, including VAT. The project aims to significantly enhance safety, access, and urban equipment within the park.

The current dog area measures 624 square metres. The expansion will increase this to a total of 2,385 square metres. This makes it one of the largest dog leisure areas in the province.

Major Expansion Underway

A key feature of the AMB’s plan is maintaining segregated spaces for dogs based on their size. The area for smaller dogs will expand from 209 to 415 square metres. Meanwhile, the zone for larger dogs will increase substantially, from 415 to 1,969 square metres.

The project will also install new urban furniture throughout the park. This includes benches, waste bins with bag dispensers, and water fountains. Additionally, new signs will display usage rules, and tree protectors will be added.

The work is taking place on the lateral side of Besòs Park. This section borders the Ronda de Sant Ramon de Penyafort.

Enhanced Safety and Accessibility

The expansion project focuses on improving both existing equipment and access points. Five new entrances will feature double gates to ensure enhanced security. Two of these entrances will serve the small dog area, with three for the large dog section.

A new perimeter fence will improve visibility between the park’s interior and exterior. The design also incorporates specific access points for maintenance vehicles. These doors are adapted to allow easy passage for equipment.

Sant Adrià de Besòs, a municipality within the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, will benefit greatly from this investment. This development provides a modern, spacious, and secure environment for local dog owners and their pets. It enhances community facilities across the region.

Project Timeline and Funding

The project has a budget of €129,534, including VAT. The estimated execution period is four months.

Interested contractors had until 13 April to submit their bids for the work. The Área Metropolitana de Barcelona expects to complete the project by late summer. This will deliver a premier dog leisure area for the “Gran Barcelona” region.
