Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) will reactivate its popular 'love cam' at Diagonal metro station next Thursday, 23 April. It invites passengers to share public displays of affection for Sant Jordi. This initiative, following last year's success, aims to capture and project heartfelt moments across the metro network.
Sharing Affection and Commemorative Cards
The 'love cam' is situated at the bustling Diagonal station. This station serves both the L3 and L5 metro lines. It encourages individuals to express affection. Passengers can show love towards partners, friends, family, or even pets through kisses and hugs. Images captured by the camera will then appear on digital screens throughout the entire metro system. TMB will also share these declarations of love on its official social media channels. Additionally, TMB is distributing a special "T-Estimo" (I love you) card. This unique card, designed primarily as a bookmark, is "not valid for travel but for falling in love," according to the transport company, according to TMB Barcelona official website. Staff will hand out these commemorative cards at various metro stations and bus lines across the city, including at Diagonal.
Sant Jordi: A Day of Love and Record Ridership
Sant Jordi, celebrated annually on 23 April, holds profound cultural significance as Catalonia's traditional day of love, books, and roses. It stands distinct from Valentine's Day, which is observed on 14 February. The 'love cam' proved highly popular in its previous iteration, prompting its return to enhance the festive atmosphere. This day consistently sees a significant surge in public transport usage across Barcelona. Last year, on 23 April, the metro network recorded a record 1.88 million validations on a working day. This figure represented a 3.9% increase compared to the same day in 2024. Including bus services, the total number of journeys across the TMB network reached 2.61 million, marking a 3% rise. These statistics underscore the importance of public transport during major city events.
By bringing back the 'love cam' and offering the charming "T-Estimo" card, TMB continues to engage Barcelona's residents and tourists. It celebrates this cherished Catalan tradition. The campaign highlights the metro's integral role in the city's cultural life, especially during peak celebratory periods like Sant Jordi. It fosters community spirit and encourages participation in local customs.
