Vilafranca del Penedès will host a conference on Friday, 8 May, addressing the growing issue of missing persons with cognitive impairment. The event, organised by the Asociación Recuérdame, aims to boost prevention and support for affected families across Catalonia. It will take place at the Vinseum auditorium.

The Asociación Recuérdame, El Principio de la Desconexión, states that this issue is "a reality increasingly present and with a strong impact on families and society." The conference brings together key stakeholders to tackle this challenge. Representatives from major police forces in Spain, healthcare professionals, emergency services, and social entities will participate. Journalist Marta Català will lead the discussions.

Improving Prevention and Coordination

The conference's main goal is to raise awareness about the problem of these disappearances. It also seeks to improve training and prevention strategies. Additionally, the event promotes better coordination among various entities and services. It encourages community involvement in finding and supporting vulnerable individuals.

The Director General of the Catalan police force, Mossos d'Esquadra, Josep Lluís Trapero, will open the conference. Fran Martín, head of IPA-HSAR, and José Codina, president of the organising association, will also speak. Vilafranca del Penedès, a town in the Barcelona province, is a fitting location for this important discussion. The Penedès region is known for its wine production, but like many areas in Catalonia, it faces the social challenges of an ageing population.

This initiative highlights the ongoing need for a unified approach to a sensitive issue. It aims to equip professionals and communities with the tools required to protect those most at risk.
