Barcelona is firmly in summer mode, and Barcelona English Speakers is heading into June with a busy community calendar. After a very wet winter and a brief spell of milder weather, the group is now looking ahead to its next meet-up and a packed run of regular events.

The next meet-up takes place tomorrow at Lemon Tree chiringuito. It is free to attend, and everyone is welcome. You can sign up on Meetup or through the group’s new Luma page. There is also a free shot before 8:30pm for anyone who wants one.

Alongside the main meet-up, the community’s regular events are continuing to grow. The “Play Sports” / BES Social group is organising football matches through Spond, with several fixtures each week. The volleyball group is meeting weekly too, usually on Saturday or Sunday afternoon or evening, and the book club has chosen Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder for July, with the next discussion set for 11 July.

There is also movement on the business side of the community. Matthew and the writer launched Bizcelona in December, a network for founders, freelancers and self-employed people in Barcelona. The group is now close to 100 members and runs a free fortnightly co-working event at Eixample 46. The next one is on Wednesday 1st July, and spaces are limited. You can apply via the Bizcelona signup page.

Other community news includes Alex, who has helped several BES members with property questions and has now started his own property company. There is also a 20% discount for members on a day out of the city that includes a countryside walk and sun printing. More details are available on the Meetup event page.

The group is also talking about the World Cup in its “Talk Sport” chat, with a predictor open to everyone. Members can keep up with future watch parties and event updates through the Meetup page and Luma page. For more on the wider community, see our Community coverage and Sport updates.
