Barcelona will mark International LGTBI Pride Day on Friday, 26 June, with events centred on Plaça Sant Jaume in the city centre. Mayor Jaume Collboni will lead the city ceremony, alongside the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The day begins at 09:00 with a reception in the Saló Ciutat at Barcelona City Council for local LGTBI organisations. At 09:30, the Rainbow flag will be raised from the City Council balcony. The ceremony is part of the city’s official programme to recognise the day and support LGTBI rights.
At the same time, the Generalitat de Catalunya will hold its own flag-raising ceremony on the Generalitat balcony. Eva Menor, Minister for Equality and Feminism, will lead that event. After both ceremonies, the Mayor, the Minister and representatives from the groups will gather in Plaça Sant Jaume for a group photograph.
Plaça Sant Jaume, in the Gothic Quarter, is one of Barcelona’s main civic squares and home to both the City Council and the Generalitat buildings. It is the main setting for the city’s official Pride Day events.
Barcelona City Council said the events are meant to celebrate diversity and affirm the rights of the LGTBI community. The original notice was published by the Barcelona City Council press office. For more local coverage, see our Community page.
